The territory for Jewish cemetery was given in 1829. Burials started from 1831. Cemetry was expanded in 1848 and 1893. Until 1893, burial course was chaotic. The new part of cemetery, formed in 1893, was well planned. In 1940 the cemetery reached a 12,5 hectar area. It was estimated around 70.000 people buried here during 1830–1939.
In 1960 Vilnius city executive committee decided to list graves of famous Jewish people and to bury them elsewhere. On the 27th of October, 1961 the committee decided to liquidate this cemetery in 2 years. Only few tombs of famous people was buried in Sudervė Jewish cemetery, while other tombs were collected and were used as building material. In 1968 the cemetery was absolutely eliminated.
