The Carillon Tower was named for Dr. Arthur R. Metz who founded the Metz Scholarship Program at IU in 1955. The tower was an instrument that featured 61 cast bells, each with a special inscription. The tower was disassembled and a new one was built in 2018-2019 in the arboretum closer to the heart of campus.
