Building on a foundation of more than 55 years in nuclear research and development, INL’s National and Homeland Security Division performs essential research, delivers critical technology solutions, and provides indispensable prototyping and testing services to identify and defeat threats to the security of the nation.
We work consistently to develop and enhance the nation’s role in nuclear materials nonproliferation, safeguards, and security by providing leadership and technologies in a broad array of categories including nuclear materials security, signatures, and detection; advanced nuclear energy safeguards, training, and testing; and evaluation of policy, solutions, and services.
Our capabilities and expertise are enhanced through our secure and isolated Critical Infrastructure Test Range. The Test Range, complete with full scale, functioning infrastructure systems for the electric power grid, wireless communications, and others has become the leading center for the protection of the nation’s critical infrastructures and related components. The Test Range also allows for testing and development of unmanned aerial vehicles, trace explosives detection and testing, and lightweight armor development and testing.
The National and Homeland Security Division conducts sustainable programs focused in Global Security, Homeland Security, National Defense, Energy Security, and Special Programs.
