Church of Varlam and Joseph is on the lower level. Church of St. John the Divine is on the middle level.

Moscow Baroque Bell Tower originally commissioned by Sophia and completed in 1690, the bell tower stands 72 meters high and is the second tallest bell tower in Moscow after the Ivan the Great tower located in the Kremlin. These six tapering, ornate octagons rise step-wise to a gilded cupola. Each level is a different height and has a different combination of architectural details: arcades, openings, columns, ornamental railings and stone balustrades. The blind and open arcades alternate by level. A covered staircase in the lower level leads to the small Church of Varlam and Joseph, further up at a middle level is the Church of St. John the Divine.
