1 Hotel Central Park

USA / New Jersey / West New York / West 58th Street, 64-68

199-foot, 18-story Neo-Renaissance hotel completed in 1923. Designed by Rouse & Goldstone, it opened as the Park Chambers Apartment Hotel. It is clad in buff-colored brick above a 3-story base that was originally limestone, but was re-clad in a 2014 renovation to black metal and dark reddish-brown faux-wood composite panels covered largely by climbing ivy.

The north facade on 58th Street spans seven bays, with the main entrance in the 3rd bay from the east; it has tall, slightly-recessed double-doors of metal and wood in a jumbled twig pattern, below a metal canopy. To the left is a bay with a large 3-over-3 window, and the east end bay has two service doors, also recessed, camoflauged by the same panels cladding most of the rest of the base. The four bays to the right of the entrance are grouped together, each with 3-over-3 window panes separated by slightly-wider panes fronting the structural piers. Black metal panels top all of the bays at the ground floor. The 2nd floor has similar windows at the west end, with the four bays joined together, and the three eastern bays have separate 3-over-3 panes. The 3rd floor has a double-window in each bay, matching most of the windows on the upper floors; these are all replacement windows, and they project slightly from the facade. The exceptions are the single-windows at the end bays of the 4th floor, which have stone surrounds with elongated brackets supporting small stone cornices.

The base is capped at the 3rd floor by a limestone band course decorated with a row of gilded garlands and medallions. The base on the west facade on the avenue is entirely covered in ivy, except for the windows in the five bays. Those on the ground floor have small, sloped, black canvas awnings. The ornamented band course from the north facade continues onto this one as well, and the upper floors also match. Dentiled stone band courses set off the 15th & 17th floors. At the top floor the end bays again have stone surrounsds, these topped by curved, broken pediments.

The hotel contains 229 guest rooms, recently purchased by Host Hotels & Resorts.
