The Alumni Center contains 50,000 square feet of meeting and conference space.

I.M. Pei, the architecture firm that designed the center, has also designed the expansion and modernization of the Louvre in Paris and the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

The University decided to put out the design and architectural work to an outside firm over the objections of the faculty and students at the Ball State College of Architecture and Planning who wanted the honor of designing the new building. The University defended going with Pei, in part because Pei's firm included a BSU alumnus on the Board of Directors.

  • However, unlike most Pei-designed structures, the BSU Alumni Center has not reported any serious problems with leaking and water damage.
