The Rene Ramos Latour nickel processing plant is part of Cubaniquel, a government of Cuba enterprise. It produces nearly 10,000 tonnes of nickel each year plus minor amounts of cobalt. Cuba government closed the plant at the end of 2012.


Holguin province of Cuba has some of the world's largest deposits of nickel ore, representing about 34% of world reserves.
