Founded in 1837, Cincinnati Gas, Light and Coke (now Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company) erected a three story gray stone Italianate headquarters building designed by architect James W McLaughlin at 305 West Fourth Street in 1879. A five story brick Federal style addition was constructed in 1902 on Plum Street. In 1930, the company moved to its newly completed 20 story headquarters building at East Fourth Street and Main Street.
