Nature Reserve of the Calanchi ( Badlands ) of Atri

The Nature Reserve of the Calanchi of Atri, established by the Abruzzo region in 1995, has become a WWF oasis in 1999. The Reserve covers an area of about 380 hectares. The area hosts one of the most fascinating Adriatic landscapes: the badlands. This majestic architecture of natural origins was caused by a dynamic form of erosion, due to the deforestation in the past and the unceasing dry up and washouts that affect the shape of the clay soil.
