Vertical Shaft Mine Rescue

An unidentified 17 year old motorcycle rider had an unplanned Thanksgiving weekend (2010) adventure after slipping from the edge of an abandoned mine and falling 30 feet into the hole. Rescuers from the BLM, Kern and San Bernardino counties worked together approximately 90 minutes to hoist the youth out of the vertical shaft located east of Highway 395 off RM-15. The youth was transported by ground ambulance to a Ridgecrest hospital for examination.
