This Marunthuvazh Malai forms the southern tip of the Western Ghats. It is a medicinal hill which is a fragment of the Sanjeevi Mountain, which fell down here when Hanuman took it(Sanjeevi Mountain) to Lanka as per legendary.
Also, this is commonly believed to be the 'Parvatha Ucchi Malai' which is mentioned in Akilathirattu Ammanai, the holy text of Ayyavazhi.
