Madan Upazila (Netrokona district) with an area of 225.85 sq km, is bounded by Mohanganj upazila on the north, Itna and tarail upazilas on the south, Khaliajuri upazila on the east, Kendua upazila on the west. Main rivers are Dhanu, Dhalai, Baruni.

The town has a population of 10662; male 52.45%, female 47.55%. The density of population is 683 per sq km. Literacy rate among the town people is 34.4%.
Madan thana was established in 1917 and was turned into an upazila in 1983. The upazila consists of 8 union parishads, 95 mouzas and 120 villages.
As of 1991 Bangladesh census, Population 117613; male 50.99%, female 49.01%; Muslim 92.31%, Hindu 7.36%, Christian and Buddhist 0.12% and others 0.21%.

Literacy and educational institutions Average literacy 18.7%; male 23.7% and female 13.6%. Educational institutions: college 1, high school 12, government primary school 44, non-government primary school 23, low cost school 7, satellite school 10; noted educational institution: Jahangirpur T Amin High School (1946).
