The Anna Centenary Library (ACL), a state-ofthe-art library with idiosyncratic facilities was inaugurated on September 15, 2010 by the Honorable Chief Minster of Tamil Nadu, Dr. M Karunanidhi on the occasion of the 102nd birth anniversary of the former Chief Minster of Tamil Nadu Dr. C N Annadurai popularly called ‘ANNA’. By reason of his great interest towards the books and library, this library is named as ‘Anna Centenary Library’. The foundation stone for the second largest library in Asia continent, a public-centric initiative by the Government of Tamil Nadu was laid down by the Honorable Chief Minister Kalaigner M Karunanidhi on August 16, 2008, completed in a short span, and declared open to the public from 20 September 2010.The swanky Anna Centenary Library, which won praise from the then US secretary of state Hillary Clinton during her visit to Chennai in 2011, will not be shifted out of the Kotturpuram complex with the Madras high court on Monday ordering the state government to maintain it at its present location with all required facilities. The government wanted to shift the Rs 179 crore facility to the proposed knowledge park in Nungambakkam.
