The property was purchased in 1748 by Count Philip Melchior Emmanuel de Villegas de Clercamp and received additions during the eighteenth century.

In 1846 the old buildings were demolished and the current castle and coach house erected.

The formal gardens with ponds east of it had to make way for a large pond in the shape of an inverted nine.
