The place 'Duliajan' is in Dibrugarh district, an oil town about 35 kilometers from the district headquarters. The name 'Duliajan' is derived from 'Duliya' clan (Duliya, a clan who is responsible to carry the Palanquin of the Kings, Queens, and the Nobles) of the Tai-Ahom rulers A.D. 1228 to A.D. 1838. According to some, one Lanturban, a Kachari rebel against the Tai-Ahom king, killed king Siuhanpha, who was later on punished by the royal force on the bank of the 'Duroir nadi' i.e., a distant river, from this 'Duroir nadi' or 'jan' it becomes Duliajan, Duroirjan >Duliajan -it seems highly improbable. Duliajan was a part of Upparipattana, Halali, Kunda, Kundi, Saumarpitha, Dimalang, Kingdoms of Bicharpatipha, Mahamanikyapha and Nocte Chiefs etc. The first Tai-Ahom king Chaolung Siukapha proceeded through this route towards down the Mung-dun-chun-kham (a Tai word means 'a land of full of garden of gold'). Nahor Prince had his activities during the reign of Tai-Ahom king Siukhampha. The imporatnt historical places close to Duliajan are: Nahorkatia now another oil town, Namruk @ Namrup, Jaypur, Bagariguri, Silikhaguripahar etc.

Thankz to Dr.Sarat K Phukan for that insight of Duliajan. I was also born in this lovely place. Its a satellite township and HQ of Oil India Ltd, India's pioneer in Hydrocarbon Sector. Compared to the rate of change of all other places we are still lagging much behind..thatz a blessing in disguise coz the people are still enjoying calm and peaceful environment. Its has one of the highest per capita vehical concentration in South-East Asia. Its worth mentioning that Duliajan has produced India's brightest minds from its schools mostly from K.V.Duliajan, OIL Higher Secondary, St. Xaviers, and newly came up DPS Duliajan. More schools are comming up as population and increased manifold. Its connected pretty well by Road, Railways and Air. Nearest airport is in Mohanbari, Dibrugarh.

The name Duliajan came into my imagination with reading of "Anuradhar Dekh" the famous novel of Phanindra Kumar Chaudhury, an Oil Indian....and originally from my own district Barpeta...Starting from my journey through the pages of Anuradhar Dekh, till date Duliajan remains a nostalogic name for me...My oil industry training days....From the occurance of the liquid gold "Petroleum" also, Duliajan is bearing a significance in the entire map of Assam as well as the whole country.. Vive La Duliajan.

My birth town. Duliajan is an industrial town and one of the most Developed and advanced town from all over India located in Dibrugarh District in the upper north-east corner of India (Source: Wikipedia). I being a non-native of assam i had to leave for my place in every 2 years or so and did most of my studies mostly out side assam and i never saw any place so beautifully organised and greener then Duliajan. With 24 hours of water, gas and electricity service that too with good pay scale. Though it has a long way to go but its still one of the towns of this time in india.
