One of the oldest hall of residences in Dunedin, it is one of few independent from the University of Otago itself. However, residents must attend the University. Founded in 1909 as part of the Presbyterian Church, it has retained this think, although residents often stray far from the principles of the founders. It is prestigious and exclusive, but has a reputation on campus for excessive drinking.
