Gammage Auditorium was built to plans that Frank Lloyd Wright had originally drawn up for an opera house to be built in Baghdad, Iraq. When that project did not pan out, the plans were used here on the campus of ASU. The auditorium is notable not just as a Wright design, which is significant in itself, but also as the final non-residential commission that Wright undertook before his death in 1958.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 9/11/1985 as part of the Tempe Multiple Resource Area.
