  • Brings back happy memories of childhood....playing cricket with friends, flying kites, climbing Parankimaavus, throwing stones at mango trees and eating the mangoes with salt on the small outcrop of rocks on the west side overlooking Neerazhy( with the small pond and collection of bamboo trees, and the 2 Pottakinars, one small and other huge,) while reading endless copies of old stock Balarama and Poombatta, enjoying the breeze, watching planes land ,ships move, train passing through Veli, seeing the sunset, chasing rabbits at dusk!!!.During the school holiday season, which is also the festival season(March,April,May), you can hear songs drifting up in the wind from Kolatthukara, Thrippadapuarm and Ooroottu parambu temples. You can also lie back and enjoy the calls of the Kaada bird, which lays its eggs amongst the rocks. This was before the Don Bosco Buildings came up... in the period between 1982-1990.I wonder if there are any Kaada left, nowadays everyone seems to be eating up those poor birds. You could also have a grandstand view of rocket launches from VSSC, on Wednesday evenings...you had to watch carefully because you see the fast rising orange plume of fire before you hear the sound. And the goats and cows grazing. And the punnakka trees. And the small berries and kattu thettyy bushes. And the Kadackkadu grass which grows up to your head level. And the wonderful smell of mother earth carrying various scents... of punnakka flowers, parankimaanga flowers and heather , wafting in the wind. AAAHHHH, those were happy times!!! It was a wonderful place to spend my childhood.I hope it still is for youngsters.! Recently i went there and found used syringes, smashed liquor bottles.Sad.
