Pakundia Upazila (Kishoreganj district) with an area of 180.52 sq km, is bounded by Hossainpur and Kishoreganj sadar upazilas on the north, Kapasia and Monohardi upazilas on the south, Katiadi upazila on the east, Gafargaon upazila on the west. Main rivers are Old Brahmaputra, Narasunda and Banar.
Pakundia is located at 24.3276488N 90.6804657E degree. Pakundia (Town) consists of three mouzas. The town has an area of 5.02 sq km. It has a population of 4773; male 52.99%, female 47.01%. Literacy rate among the town people 42.3%.
Pakundia thana, now an upazila, was established in 1932. The upazila consists of 10 union parishads, 97 mouzas and 170 villages.
Heritage and relics: Fort of Isa Khan at Egarasindur and Mosque at village Salanga (Mughal period).
As per 1991 Bangladesh census, population 210355; male 51.26%, female 48.74%; Muslim 95.75%, Hindu 4.25%.

Average literacy 29.3%: male 33.3% and female 24.2%. Educational institutions: college 1, high school 27, junior high school 12, government primary school 96, community school 65, kindergarten 4.
