A former mining community along Howe Sound. The mine used to the second-biggest pollutant in North America before it was shut down. Now, many years later, Britannia Creek is still unsafe to touch, because you will get sick from the pollutants still in the water, and the beach that Britannia is named after is gone, replaced by a rocky shoreline when mine tailings were dumped into the ocean below the community.
Today, Britannia is a growing bedroom community, and it is the site of the BC Mining Museum, in the location of the old mine. Definitely a place to see if you're in the area.
