water, fjord, sound (geography), inlet

The southernmost fjord in North America, it was sculpted by Glaciers tens of thousands of years ago. People are mistaken when they say that Puget Sound is the southernmost fjord in North America, because by definition, a fjord is a U-shaped valley filled with water. A U-shaped valley is one carved out by a glacier, not by a river. Puget Sound was carved out by earthquakes.
