A strategically located place. It has historic importance and in present day also very much important in terms of industrial development in the region.
Due it's geographical importance on route between Pune and Nasik and for control over the nighbouring region it had a strong fortress called 'Sangramdurg'. The region including 84 villages around was called 'Chakan Chaurya-ainshi'(Meaning - Eighty Four of Chakan).
A fierce defence was offered by Maratha forces from this fort to seige laid by Mughal forces. Maratha army strength was of 400 and Mughal forces were with the strength of 25000 and artillery. The seige lasted for 55 days in the year 1660.
But today this fort is in ruins and neglect and hardly people remember about it's saga.

Will authorities look into it?
