The mosque is also known as the Marakkar Kadapuram. There is a legend behind the name. When a woman in the palace was bathing in a pond during the reign of kings, a Muslim, a Marakkar, saw and called it. It was customary at that time for women of the royal family to be seen by other communities, to be taken down with the beholder. Legend has it that he married a woman who had descended with the Marakkars and later settled down in the area. Since then, the woodcutters of the festival have performed the flag-bearer's ceremony after the woodcockers obtained permission from the stairwell before the Kalamakari festival at the Tanur Shobha Paramba Temple.
