Fun to run off of, fun to lay out at in the summer... great place to see fall foliage. Any time of year this is a good place to hike and get some excercise. Kids will love rolling, sliding, falling down the steep slope.

  • This is Mount Baldy It is NW Indiana's highest sand dune. There used to be twin sand dunes here, but in the 1920's Mt. Baldy's twin was taken by barge across the lake to Chicago where the sand still resides today. The sand was used to make up ALL the beaches in Chicago, since there were no natural beaches on Chicago's side of Lake Michigan. Pretty nifty!! Come climb Mt. Baldy on the 4th of July and you can see MANY fireworks displays from all around!
  • Mt. Baldy is not Northwest Indiana's highest dune. There are at least half a dozen, if not a dozen, taller. No, it was not considered a twin of Hoosier Slide. Hoosier Slide, Indiana's biggest dune, was much larger. Mt. Baldy was called the Moon Dune before people in Colorado decided to rename it Mount Baldy so that the Indiana Dunes would have a "Mount Baldy" just like every other dunes region.
  • I hiked here two years ago with my grandmother. I loved running down it!
