Schorisse (in French Escornaix) is a village in the Belgian province of East Flanders and a submunicipality of the municipality of Maarkedal, it was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1977. The agricultural village is an elongated street village in the Flemish Ardennes, near Hainaut.
Schoorisse, derived from the Latin Scornacum (schorre), was already known in the 12th century, more specifically with the Lords of Schoorisse. Arnaut V, one of the Lords, was even councilor of Lodewijk van Male who acquired the independence of the current Schorisse in 1378.
