Dimla Upazila (Nilphamari district) with an of area 326.80 sq km, is bounded by West Bengal of India on the north, Jaldhaka upazila on the south. Hatibandha upazila on the east and Domar upazila on the west. Main rivers are Tista and Buri Tista.
The location of Dimla town is 26.1513386N 88.920132E. Dimla (Town) consists of two mouzas. It has an area of 9.13 sq km. The town has a population of 7575; male 52.69%, female 47.31%. The density of population is 829 per sq km. Literacy rate among the town people is 30.1%.
Dimla thana, now an upazila, was established in 1857. The upazila consists of 10 union parishads, 53 mouzas and 53 villages.
As of the 1991 Bangladesh census: Population 187696; male 51%, female 49%; Muslim 86.46%; Hindu 13.43% and others 0.11%; ethnic nationals: Santal population 152.
Religious institutions Mosque 371, temple 25.
Literacy and educational institutions: Average literacy 20.7%; male 30.7%, female 10%. Educational institutions: college 5, high school 43, madrasa 85, government primary school 72, non-government primary school 97, kindergarten 3.
Cultural organisations: Cinema hall 2, theatre group 3, literary society 1, women's organisation 1.
Main occupations: Agriculture 54.69%, agricultural labourer 28.11%, wage labourer 3.75%, commerce 4.75%, service 2.22% and others 6.48%.
Land use: Total land under cultivation 22469 hectares, fallow land 559 hectares; single crop land 19.49%, double crop 68.98% and triple crop11.53%; land under irrigation 16150 hectares.
Land control: Among the peasants 50% are landless, 28% small, 15% intermediate and 7% rich.
Main crops Paddy, wheat, tobacco, potato, corn, onion, chilli and cucumber.

Communication facilities- Roads: pucca 66 km and mud road 220 km.
Manufactories: Rice mill 30, flour mill 2 and saw mill 20.

NGO activities: Operationally important NGOs are brac, asa, CARE, Grameen Krishi Foundation, Ahsania Mission and RDRS.
