It is the most southerly town in the UK, being marginally south of Penzance by some 3 km. In 2001 the town celebrated the 800th anniversary of the granting of its Charter, making it the second eldest town in Cornwall after Marazion. The town isalso known for its Spring floral dance (The Helston Furry), where the people, in lines, dance through the town, and through the houses. Terry Wogan likes to sing his floral dance song at this.

  • Also known for the Blue Anchor pub. Brews its own beer called Spingo.Marvelous !!
  • I assume the Terry Wogen song is the one by Kate Moss? I've never heard him (or even of him, being a Yank), but I do have mp3's of Frank Oldfield and Peter Dawson.
  • Terry Wogan sang that song himself. THis is the link from youtube: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ElnCI1fkfFM
  • An absolute beautiful town! I've been here, it's just a 10 minute walk and 1 minute drive from Loe Pool, and a 15 minute walk and 3 minute drive from the sea. It's got a lovely beach nearby too, called Mullion Cove (named after the town of Mullion, which is slightly nearer). It's on a steep slope, which makes it very picturesque. Many pictures of Cornwall show Helston on them, most of them taken from Loe Pool, which is at the bottom of the hill.
