Poonthanam was one of the pioneers who lived in Kerala. *** Birth and life It is believed that he was born and lived in Poonthanam (Poonkavanam - Poonthavanam - Poonthanam) in the old Valluvanad taluk in Central Kerala (now 8 km north of Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district). Poonthanam's lifespan is generally determined to be 1547 to 1640 AD (Prof. KV Krishna Iyer). Numerous documents are available to prove that he was a contemporary of Melpattur (1560-1646). At present, the house and its adjoining land are under the control of the Guruvayoor Devasam Board. The locals want the Center and the Devaswom Board to wait for the government to take action.
