  • The Cerro Prieto Geothermal Field, which is currently producing over 180 megawatts, is one of the largest producing geothermal fields in the world.
  • What is the source for the name change from Laguna Volcano/Volcano Lake? I find it unlikely that Mexicans would call it "Cerro Prieto Lake" as lake is an English word.
  • Originally (1800s), the area was surveyed by gringos who hoped to bring irrigation to the area. The maps and descriptions they drew referred to the lake as Volcano Lake (as the lake was at the base of a prominent volcano). As Mexicans began moving to the area some 50yrs later, they began naming the area's various features, and they named the prominent volcano Cerro Prieto
