A convenient entry point to the Sacred Valley, the valley of the Urambamba River. Reached by a paved road from Cuzco, and connected to Urambamba and Ollantaytambo, from where the train goes to Machu Picchu.

The old Inca fortress of Pisac is on a rock spur above the modern town.
