Part of the Sandringham Estate, the house was a wedding gift from the then Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) to his daughter Maud upon her marriage to Prince Carl of Denmark (later King Haakon VII of Norway) in 1896. Their son King Olav V of Norway was born here in 1903. The house was unoccupied after Maud's death in 1938, fell into disrepair, and was pulled down in 1984.
