The Mt Arthur Coal mine is a large open-cut mine in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia.

Mt Arthur Coal is a large open-cut coal mine less than five kilometres from the town of Muswellbrook in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales. We produce up to 20 million tonnes per annum of raw energy coal when full production is achieved. The coal is produced for domestic and export power generation.

The mine shares the area with rural properties and other industries such as horse studs, vineyards, olive groves and residential suburbs.

Mining commenced within the Mt Arthur Coal complex in the 1960s in the Bayswater No.2 pits. Coal production progressively increased and approval to mine at Bayswater No. at a rate equivalent to 5 Mtpa ROM coal as ranted in 1994. In 2001 the Mt Arthur North project commenced development following an extensive social and environmental assessment process. The current Mt Arthur Coal peration comprises the: Mt Arthur North Mine, Bayswater No. 2 Mine,Bayswater No. 3 Mine and South Pit xtension; and the Mt Arthur Coal Exploration Adit and Mt Arthur Underground project.

Products

Mt Arthur Coal supplies three key products to the export market include MA-12 (12.0%ad ASH product), MA-14 (14.0%ad ASH product) and MA-16 (16.0%ad ASH product).
