Seggiano is a little country placed on north-western part of the Amiata Mountain and it’s 491 meters high. The territory of the council extends himself for 49,53 km and is a natural paradise where to find secular olive-tree, vineyards, chestnut trees at Pescina fraction and, approaching to the top of the mountain, wonderful beech woods. The first settlements in this zone were of Etruscan and Roman origin and the etymology of this village name, it probably comes from the pagan cult of Giano, an ancient divinity . In 903 D.C. the first parchment in which the village ("Senganu farmhouse") appears was found. Its membership is attested in those years to San Salvatore abbey. So as big part of the countries of the neighbouring zones, also Seggiano had varied changes in his jurisdiction; the XIII century saw the first settlement by S. Antimo abbey and after, by the Republic of Siena. Two families of the new town aristocracy had particular affects on Seggiano’s territory: The Salimbeni between XIII and XIV century, and the Ugurgieri from the beginning of the XV century. In the XVI century, it was Granducato of Tuscan property under the domain of Medici family who was then replaced, in the XVII century,by the Lorena family. In the end, in the XVIII century, it belonged to the Arcidosso and Castel del Piano Podesteria. The current territorial borders have been done in 1920 when it obtained the detachment from Castel del Piano.
