A community of houses in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright, with three designed by him. Built just after World War II, many of the house are precursors of design taken as granted today, but considered very radical at the time. Wright did much of the site planning for the community.

See:

www.galinsky.com/buildings/reisley/index.htm

for an example and:

for a short history.

Note that the wikipedia article credits F. L. Wright with the design of all the homes, but this seems not to be true.

  • I have lived adjacent to Usonia for 42 years, and the degree of attribution to Frank Lloyd Wright seems to be inflated with the passing of each decade. At the outset, it was attributed wholly to students of the architect and no significant involment by him was claimed in the contemporary local press articles. For a number of years, the fire department refused to service the development because, in true Wright impractical fashion, the private roads in the development were too narrow to meet the requirements for the equipment. I believe some compromise finally was reached.
