Apartment building constructed in the late 19th century on the site an earlier urban estate. Renovated and rebuilt several times.
Here from 1918 until his death 1968, Peter V. Sytin lived and worked in apartment #49. Sytin was a famous Moscow historian who wrote about the history of Moscow streets and buildings.
In 1941 a German bomb fell on house № 8 punching holes in the ceilings and floors of the upper three floors. In 1945 the house was completely restored.
