The park was established in 1972 and is named after Canada's Olympic skier, Nancy Greene who grew up in nearby Rossland and at an early age started her skiing career at Red Mountain. There is no known evidence of historic use of this area. Nancy Green Provincial Park lies in the Ktunaxa/Kinbasket, Okanagan, Sinixt and Shuswap first nation traditional territories.
