A semi-rural and rural IoW community with well known for its seafood. The village is to the east at the end of the enormous estuary/harbour Newtown Harbour. Excellent local food is served at the New Inn dating to 1743.

Hamlets: Hamstead, Cranmore and Bouldnor to the north; Ningwood, Wellow which has Rossiters Vineyard (not to be confused with another in Hampshire) to the west; and Newbridge close to the south.
