  • Believe it or not, there were still a few abandoned RCA buldings on some of the grounds almost into the early-1990's. Before I got a DEP permit to hike the land, I checked some of the territory out and even saw some empty canisters of radioactive paint in the building. After I got my permit, I went back there, and the building and pretty much everything in it was gone.
  • I was on that land many times as a volunteer fireman in the 70s-80s. Then I got a permit but only walked out by Whiskey Rd. The big antennae was overwhelming to me. Then I missed it come down..
  • I remimber years ago I seen this small building it the was vacant with chairs and debris in side dont remember where it was i must have bumped into it hunting years ago very interesting ..
  • My father started taking my brother and i hunting at rocky point and riverhead in 1987 when I was around 7 years old. Most of all the RCA buildings and equipment with the exception to the tall towers were still standing. We would hunt, hang out and eat lunch in the buildings. Some of the best memories of my life. Around 1990 small game season in September the final demo began and it all came down. I still hunt both properties till this day. There are some poles, wires and tons of cement blocks around that are slowly disappearing into the land scape. While we were in the woods the other day hunting we were discussing some kind of museum or historical society to try and gather artifacts and information about RCA and the history of the radio stations. Anyhow the memories of hunting with my Dad and family on these properties with last a lifetime.
  • My father worked there until 1976. I have many fond memories of sledding and hiking there. Just went back last week, it's all gone
