 village, gram panchayat

Sapnawat is a village and Gram Panchayat in Dhaulana Block Dhaulana Tehsil in Hapur District of UP.
This village is primarily inhabited by residents who are of Rajpoot Shishodia descent. It is also famed for its social harmony between Hindu and Muslim residents.

The village was established in Samwat 1023 by Maharana Seed. The manner in which the village was named is quite interesting. Historical accounts recall that he came by on horse and rode around an area of land and thus named it Aswa-Napitah. The total land area of this village is approximately 52,000 Bigha (32500 acres).

Sapnawat contains many temples (around 20), the most notable of these are Sai Temple and Mata Kangda Temple.

  • Katar Singh (Shishodia) I am happy to see a brief profile of my village, Sapnawat and a few comments of those who were born in and /or residents of Sapnawat. I was born in August 1939 in Sapnawat, which then was in the jurisdiction of Meerut district, then Ghaziabad and now in Hapur (Panchsheel) district. I got my early education in the village primary school, then in Dhaulana and later in Government Agriculture College Kanpur and in the University of Illinois at Urban-Champaign, USA.. I retired as Director, Institute of Rural management , Anand in 2002 and have settled in Anand, Gurarat.. I am proud of having been born and brought up in Sapnawat. My younger brother, Ved Prakash Singh, still lives in my village.I am currently writing a brief history of Sapnawat and how it has developed over the last 70 years or so.I am not sure if any one of my contemporaries from Sapnawat village will ever see my comments and help me with some information about the current state of development in the village. Any information about the village is welcome. i could be reached at Singhkatar6@gmail.com
  • Mr Kartar Singh, You are my grandfatherly figure. I occasionally go to Sapnawat to attend marriages and celebrate Diwali festival. I feel very touchy when I met or speak people from this village. I was born in Delhi but the feelings and emotions that I have for people of this village cannot be described. Due to officials’ commitments, I rarely go or visit the village but miss it every moment. As far as the development concerned in the village, there has been a lot of progress in the village over the last 10 years. In fact, it has turned into tourist hub. Around three temples have been set up in the recent years and some are likely to be ready in near future. Sai Baba and Durga temple is giving a lot of employment to the people of nearby villages as well. They sell eatables, juices, toys, install jhulas for children and religious items. When it comes to education, a lot of private schools have been set up alongside main a road that leads from Mausri (Ghaziabad) to Gulaothi (Bulandshehr). Roads are well off, connectivity has improved. At least each home has motor cycle and many people own four vehicles; 16-18 hour power is provided by the government. Children are getting education. But one thing has improved that is alcohol consumption. Youngsters are getting trapped under alcohol influence. They do not have much money so they are selling their agricultural land for livelihood. So these things are very disturbing for me.
  • i am proud to be a citizen of sapnawat
