The Long Island Rail Road's Wantagh station (on the Montauk/Babylon Branch) opened in 1867, at that time a part of the South Side Railroad of LI. It was known as Ridgewood until 1891. The current station dates to 1967 when the tracks were elevated through much of the south shore. Morning express trains to Penn Station or Flatbush Avenue average around 50 minutes.
