LIRR - Long Island Rail Road, 1860s construction, railway stop
Broadway is a station located in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens, on the Long Island Rail Road's Port Washington Branch. Broadway was the old name used for the section of Northern Boulevard passing through Flushing and Auburndale. By the 1930s, the name changed in order to avoid confusion with another Broadway located in western Queens. Station first opened 1866, current station house built 1906 and tracks elevated 1913. Platform space was added in the 1990's, station was renovated in 2003, and old platforms were refurbished in 2008 with the installation of Jean Shin‘s “Caledon Remnants” which is a large-scale mosaic work using traditional Korean ceramic fragments.
