LIRR - Long Island Rail Road, draw only border, train station, 1850s construction

Flushing-Main Street is a station on the Port Washington Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. Flushing Station was originally built in late 1853 and opened in 1854 as the terminus of the New York and Flushing Railroad. Station house was burned in 1864 in order to prepare for a new one, built 1865 to serve the North Shore Railroad's extension of the line to Great Neck. It was razed again and a third station was built in 1870, lasting until 1912, when the tracks were raised above grade. The fourth station at the new elevated track level lasted until 1958, when it was torn down and the current small station at street level was built. 'Main Street' was added to the station's name in order to differentiate it from Flushing-Bridge Street, a station on the Whitestone Branch from 1870-1932.
