In the 18th century, when our country was under British rule, Alappuzha was one of the major business centers in Kerala. Mr. Shuvala (citation needed) who is remembered as one of the officers in British administration in Alappuzha, built a huge bungalow as his vacation home in here. After India became independent, a private dispensary was working in this building. After that, the SNDP management took over this, initiated by N.K. Narayanan and started an English Medium School and named it S.S. English Medium School in memory of Sahodaran Ayyappan. Hence the place got its name.
