Formerly abandoned and partially under the jurisdiction of the military, in the 1990s it was refurbished around a portion of the former city wall that still stands.
This park, complete with a track for children to cycle and a pedestrian walkway, sits on the banks of the Río Rímac. During its construction diggers unearthed the remains of 500-year-old city walls that were once meant to repel both the rising river and Dutch pirates. A small museum on the site explains some of the history of the wall and the city of Lima. There are also modern restaurants and tourist shops. It is clearly designed for families with children, but even on your own, it is a surprisingly pleasant experience, and worth visiting if you are already in the Historical Center.

  • Es sin duda, una de las mejores obras (por no decir la mejor) que ha realizado el alcalde Luis Castañeda durante sus ya casi seis años de gestión. Se rescató un área completamente olvidada y abandonada que, por lo que tengo entendido perteneció a Enafer Perú. Desde la colonia, su terreno era un inmenso botadero de basura, y desde las barrancas del río (desde la zona de la Iglesia de San Francisco hasta las cercanías de la Huerta Perdida en los Barrios Altos) hubo una serie de callejoncitos que bajaban hasta el Rímac. A comienzos de los años 1970 hubo un inconcluso plan por modernizar la zona. Recién fue Castañeda Lossio quien puso en valor y rescató un gran área del Centro Histórico de Lima.
