Silver-lead-zinc mine. The Noonday was previously known as the Grant or Mabel mine. The mine was discovered by William D. and Robert D. Brown in 1875. Besides mining, the Brown brothers also laid out the townsite of Brownsville near Willow Creek and started farming Resting Springs to feed themselves and sell produce.

Jonas B. Osborne arrived in the Resting Springs mining district sometime around 1876. Most of the ore being produced in the Browns' mines required smelting to be profitable, so Osborne formed the Los Angeles Mining and Smelting Company with several partners. The Noonday was one of five mines bought from the Brown brothers for $500; he also bought the Balance mine for $10,000.
