Mariupol (Ukrainian: Маріуполь, Greek: Μαριούπολη) is a port city in south-east of Ukraine, situated on the coast of the Azov Sea, at the mouth of the Kalmius River.
It is also a climatic seasonal resort.
Administratively, it belongs to the Donetsk Oblast (region) of Ukraine.
Founded in 16th century.
Population: 431,859 (2021).
Mariupol has historically had a relatively large Greek minority.

Former names: Adamakha, Kalmiuska Palanka, Pavlovsk, Zhdanov.

Mariupol is an important industrial center and seaport.
It has two steel mills (Ilyich Iron and Steel Works and Azovstal), which make up a significant part of Ukraine's total export.
The Azovmash machine-building concern is the largest in the country.

On March 7, 2022, Mariupol was awarded the honorary title 'Hero City of Ukraine'.
