Bucks Run Golf Club is owned by the Fisher family of Mount Pleasant and Midland. The Fisher Family also owns: Fisher Sand & Gravel, Fisher Transportation, Central Asphalt, Central Concrete and numerous other local businesses.
The site that Bucks Run sits on is 290 acres located in Isabella County. The property has been in the Fisher family since the early 1950’s when it became a busy mining operation of gravel, rock, and sand. Operations halted in the early 1990’s leaving the site quiet and undisturbed for nearly a decade.
Construction of the golf course began in the spring of 1999 and the golf course opened for play on July 1, 2000. Architect Jerry Matthews, who has designed numerous other golf courses in Michigan, designed the course. The largest lake, Lake Fisher, was once the main quarry for the mining operation and is now surrounded by two holes on the front nine and three holes on the back nine. The course also features 1.5 miles of Chippewa River frontage coming in to play on seven holes, and two other smaller lakes that come into play on three holes.
In 2004 and 2006, Bucks Run received 4-½ stars out of a possible 5, in Golf Digests Places to Play. The course also received a Top 50 ranking for “Course Condition”, “Pace of Play”, and “Service”. Bucks Run has hosted three United States Amateur qualifiers, and four Powerbilt Junior Tour events since its opening. The course record from the back set of tees is 64, held by Gary Robinson Jr.
