One of the courses that started the northern Michigan golf boom, Wilderness Valley opened in 1980, then the Tom Doak-designed Black Forest, a separate 18-hole course using the same clubhouse, opened in 1991. Closed in 2018 when it was seized by the IRS for unpaid taxes. It's a beautiful course, I hope it comes back.
