Trump World Tower is a residential skyscraper in Manhattan, New York City. Construction began in 1999 and concluded in 2001. It is 861 ft (262 m) high and has 72 floors. The modernist-styled building has a concrete structural frame and a curtain wall facade of dark bronze-tinted glass. It was constructed from 1999 to 2001 and was the world's tallest residential building from 2001 until 2003.
Completed for the Trump Organization, the building was designed by Costas Kondylis (also the Polish architect, Marta Rudzka?), with curtain wall facades of dark, bronze-tinted glass. The resulting large windows allow for extensive views of the East River and midtown Manhattan. The building is constructed with concrete to improve its wind resistance.
The apartment prices, premium location and posh amenities like fireplaces in certain apartments have made the building popular with many wealthy and famous persons. As with the vast majority of buildings in Manhattan, it is built on bedrock, also known as "Manhattan Schist", which has a bearing capacity of 40 tons per square foot.
The plant room contains a 600-ton tuned mass damper. The lateral force resisting system consists of shear walls and frames interacting for the full height of the building with a perimeter concrete "belt" at mid-height and a perimeter concrete "hat" at the top. The belt and hat are full-story concrete walls that form a tube around the perimeter of the tower.
The building, with a floor area of 897,742 sq ft (83,403 sq m), has 374 residential units. Megu, an Asian restaurant, has operated on the ground floor since April 2006. The ground floor also houses The World Bar.
