Site of Battle of Tewkesbury, 1471. This was the last battle in the Wars of the Roses, ending in a resounding defeat for the Yorkists.
Edward IV's victory and the death of Henry VI’s son and heir, shortly followed by Henry’s own death and Queen Margaret’s imprisonment, destroyed hopes of a Lancastrian succession and led to fourteen years peace.
It is reenacted each year at the Tewkesbury Medieval Festival.
